Professional Journey

2008

Community Health Diploma

Completed her diploma at Dundalk Institute of Technology with focus on health promotion and community wellbeing programmes. This background would later shape her approach to dance education.

2008–2014

Health Promotion Work & Dance Training

Worked in community health roles while retraining as a dance instructor. Recognised the transformative impact of social dancing on older adults' physical and mental health. Completed extensive training in Latin and Caribbean dance styles, grounding her teaching in both practical skill and health science.

2012

Level 4 Dance Education Qualification

Earned her Level 4 Dance Education qualification from the Irish Institute of Dance in Dublin. This formal qualification combined pedagogy, movement science, and evidence-based teaching methods specific to adult learners.

2014

Dundalk Dance Programme Established

Launched beginner-friendly social dance classes in Dundalk specifically designed for mature adults. The programme quickly grew to serve over 150 active seniors, proving there was genuine demand for accessible dance education in the area.

2017

Navan Programme Launch

Expanded to Navan, establishing a second beginner dance school. Combined with Dundalk, the two programmes now serve over 200 active seniors. Both locations focus on creating welcoming, non-judgmental spaces where older learners can discover social dance.

Teaching Philosophy

How Mairéad makes social dance genuinely accessible to adults starting later in life

No Romanticising, Just Reality

Mairéad doesn't pretend dance is easy at 45+. It's not. But that doesn't mean it's impossible. She's built her teaching around honest expectations—clear timelines, realistic progression, and celebrating actual improvement rather than comparing beginners to advanced dancers.

Health-First, Joy-Second

Her community health background means she understands the physical and mental benefits of movement. Every class is structured to improve balance, cardiovascular fitness, and social connection. But it's never clinical—people learn because they're actually enjoying it.

Modified Doesn't Mean Watered Down

When she adapts footwork for someone with knee issues, or slows the tempo for someone learning rhythm for the first time, it's not a lesser version of the dance. It's the real thing, taught at a pace that works. Modifications are strengths, not shortcuts.
